Best Hospitals Ranked for Gastroenterology and GI Surgery

Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota has once again been ranked as the nation’s top hospital for gastroenterology and gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, holds on to the No. 2 spot on the 2025-2026 rankings for gastroenterology and GI surgery, and Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, holds onto the No. 3 spot — same as last year.

NYU Langone Hospitals in New York City holds the No. 4 spot on this year’s rankings (up from No. 5 last year) and New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital sits at No. 5 (up from No. 8 last year).

Rounding out the top 10 US hospitals for gastroenterology and GI surgery are Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore (No. 6, same as last year); Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston (No. 7, same as last year); University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center (No. 8, down from No. 4 last year); Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston (No. 9, same as last year); and Northwestern Medicine-Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago (No. 10, same as last year).

U.S. News evaluated 1569 GI hospitals and ranked the top 50 that treat many patients requiring challenging stomach, esophageal, digestive, pancreatic, liver, colon, bowel, and rectal procedures and with conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis, and hepatitis.

Best Hospitals Honor Roll

This year, as in prior years, U.S. News also recognized “honor roll” hospitals that have excelled across multiple areas of care. There are 20 hospitals across 13 states this year, listed in alphabetical order here:

  • AdventHealth, Orlando, Florida
  • Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston
  • Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Hackensack University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health, Hackensack, New Jersey
  • Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Medicine, Philadelphia
  • Houston Methodist Hospital
  • Johns Hopkins Hospital
  • Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Mayo Clinic, Arizona, Phoenix
  • Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
  • Mount Sinai Hospital, New York
  • New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell
  • Northwestern Medicine-Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago
  • NYU Langone Hospitals
  • Rush University Medical Center, Chicago
  • Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California
  • UCLA Medical Center
  • University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health-UCSF Medical Center
