Hurricane Prompts Heart Failure Society to Cancel Meeting

The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) has cancelled its annual scientific meeting, scheduled to begin today in Atlanta, Georgia, due to Hurricane Helene.

“The safety of our attendees, staff, exhibitors — as well as the employees who staff the hotel and Georgia World Congress Center — is our top priority, and we believe this is the most responsible course of action,” the society said in a statement on its website.

The meeting will still deliver some of the planned program virtually. Late Breaking Clinical Research sessions will be livestreamed on Sunday, September 29 and Monday, September 30 at 9:00 AM ET, and will be available as recorded presentations following the sessions. Details on accessing the recording will be emailed to all registered attendees and made available on the website as soon as they are available.

Late Breakers Livestreaming

“The Program Committee received so much incredible and cutting-edge late-breaking research this year, and we know that our registrants are eager to hear these trial results and research updates. We want to bring you those results without further delay,” said Mitchell Psotka, MD, PhD, 2024 ASM Program Committee Chair. “We want to honor our commitment to the investigators and give them a platform through which they can share their research. This new format will present a different experience; but the most important thing is the science, and we’re excited to share that with you as scheduled.”

The society is also exploring options to present other content from the educational program in alternative formats at a later date.
